UPDATE of the Program of One day Tours & Visits Around the 50 Years Schools Reunion

We have arranged a full optional program of 5 one day tours and 2 morning visits for the days before and after the Schools Reunion Event on 22 Oct 23, starting from Wed 18th to Thu 26th . Most of these tours will be guided by our friend and Israeli guide Charly Atrakchi – well known to many of you.

Each of these toursis priced separately, based on minimum number of participants together with instructions and conditions for payments. If the minimum number is not reached by the closing date then the tour will be cancelled.

The program is semi fixed but if we find that there is a high demand on a specific tour but not for the right week, we may switch the dates. Hence it is very important that you express your interest and register for the tours as soon as possible as well as if you any have specific remark regarding the date. For all queries and registration write to the contact for the tours and NOT to Schools Reunion contact.

All tours will start from the assembly point at Kfar Maccabiah – Ramat Gan unless stated otherwise.

50 Years School Reunion - Tours & Visits

Tour 1 - Jerusalem one day tour– Wed 18 Oct 23

Welcome to the capital of Israel, the holy city of the Jewish people over 3000 years since king David. The city of the 3 monotheistic religions.

Will start our day in Jerusalem by one of the beautiful panoramic views of Jerusalem, the "Governor's place" promenade. The place to explain the history of the city while watching its expansion over 3000 years starting from a small town called" City of David".

Entering the old city walking through Dung gate toward the "Kotel", one of the walls that surrounded the Temple 2000 years ago. In the "Kotel" will have a pray and will place a prayer note between the ancient stones of the wall.

Near the Kotel, we will have 60 minutes of diving into the history of Jerusalem during the second temple period, visiting the western wall tunnels, a unique and fascinating route under the Old City below the huge bridge that led to the Temple during the Second Temple period. The route passes exciting sites and findings from the Second Temple period.

After a lunch break, we will go thru the Jewish Quarter, seeing the Cardo; the Byzantine-era main street of Jerusalem and the Hurva synagogue. we will visit the church of the Holy Sepulchre, and explain why this church became the holiest place for the Christianity.

Before leaving Jerusalem, will have a tour by the bus around " Kiryat HaLeom", referred to as the National Quarter. government institutions of the State of Israel such as the Prime Minister office, ministry of foreign affairs, the Knesset (parliament), the Supreme Court of Israel are located there.

The tour will take place on October 18th, 2023. Starting at 8:00 from "Kfar Maccabiah" until 19:00.

Minimum of 40 participants for tour to take place.

Prices 280 NIS (accepted only Israeli shekels)

Tour 2 - Akko (Acre) one day tour – Thu 20 October

Acre is one of the oldest cities in Israel. It was founded 4,000 years ago; It was a small fishing town until the Crusader period when the city became the capital of the Crusader kingdom after Jerusalem. Acre was destroyed by the Mamluk Baybars in 1291, and only during the Ottoman period it was rebuilt and had a new resurgence. Napoleon tried to take Acre in 1799, but could not conquer it.

Come with us and visit the major sites during the 2 main periods of the city.

The “Acre Experience” display – a cinematic “time travel” through the history of the city. Climbing the wide wall with the cannons that have protected the city. The Knights Hall (Citadel) and the Templar tunnel that belonged to the Crusader Order. The Turkish Bathhouse, Hamam Al-Basha and the Bazaar that belong to the Ottoman period.

To feel the atmosphere of the new city by walking thru the market and the fishermen port.

The tour will take place on October 19th, 2023.

Starting at 7:30 from "Kfar Maccabiah" until 18:30.

Tour 3 - Lake Kinneret & Nazareth (with Hafla) one day tour – Tue 24th Oct

We will visit the Sea of ​​Galilee (Lake Kinneret), the Golan Heights. We will hear about the Sea of ​​Galilee which is Israel’s largest source of fresh, about Tiberias and its importance in Judaism.

We talk about the Golan Heights, the conflicts along the border until the Six Day War. We then will go on a cruise on the Kinneret which will be accompanied by an atmosphere of "tarab", singing and dancing.

After that we will visit the Jordan Valley, and talk about the cultivation of dates known in the world for their quality and the way they were brought to Israel.

We will then ascend to Nazareth, where we will look out over the Jezreel Valley from a place called the Har HaKfitsa, Mount Precipice. We will explain about the origin of the name and point to the places that can be seen from it

At the end of the tour we will go for late lunch and Hafla in one the restaurant in Nazareth

Estimated finish in Nazareth at 18:30.

50 Years School Reunion - Tours & Visits

Tour 4 - Haifa and Caesarea one day tour – Wed 25 Oct

Will start our tour of Haifa by visiting the Baháʼí gardens. Haifa is the 3rd largest city in Israel, built on the slopes of Mount Carmel. "The city of the Future" described by Theodor Herzl in one of his books. It is one the main ports of Israel. This is the international center of the Baháʼí religion and it includes beautiful gardens with beautiful views. The Baháʼí gardens are UNESCO World Heritage site.

Will continue our tour to Caesarea, the city had a large port. It was built as a roman city by King Herod who dedicated it to his patron Augustus Caesar (the name Caesarea). Later it became the capital of the roman and the byzantine province until the Muslim conquest.

Later , it came under Crusader rule , who built the defensive walls .

The tour will go thru 2 periods.

1. The Roman period (2000 years ago) thru the Theater, Hippodrome, King Herod Sea palace, Villas, Bathes, some beautiful mosaic floors, preserved Aqueduct and the port itself.

2. The Crusader period (1000 years ago) thru the gate, Citadel including Wall Promenade.

The tour will take place on October 25th, 2023.

Starting at 7:30 from "Kfar Maccabiah" until 18:00.

Tour 5 - North & Agamon Hula (Hula Reeds) one day tour – Wed 25 Oct

Starting the tour in one of the beautiful lookouts for the Kinneret (Sea of the Galilee). If the weather is good, you can see up to south of the Kinneret (where the Jordan river starts).

We will continue north to the 3rd largest winery in Israel. We will have a guided tour inside the visitors center with wine tasting. The tour covers the entire wine production process.

After eating lunch, we will stop in one of the beautiful spots, "Agamon Hula" . It is a unique stop, it is considered one of the most important bird migration routes in the world. Every migration season (autumn, spring), over half a billion migratory birds fly over this area. Thousands of them stay during wintertime while others opt to nest here during the spring and summer seasons.

We will have a sunset tour, when the shades of the sky are painted in soft colors, we will go on a unique tour of the reed areas. This is the time where the birds arrange themselves for the night in the waters of the reed. An hour full of activity and happenings such as the passage of thousands of cranes

The tour will take place on October 26th ,2023.

Starting at 10:00 from "Kfar Maccabiah" until 21:00.

Minimum of 40 participants.

Morning Visit of Press Center for Peace & Innovations – Fri 20 Oct

The center is located in the Ajami district of Jaffa of the sea.

The Israeli Innovation Center is the first and largest visitor's center of its kind. It presents the incredible story of Israel, the Innovation Nation, showcases the diverse fields and people behind Israeli innovation, and welcomes visitors from Israel and around the world with the aim of promoting a better future of prosperity and peace. Partners in this journey of innovation include government ministries, multinational corporations, and the start-up community.

The guided tour is 1 hour and 45 minute in groups of up to 25 in English or Hebrew every half hour. We aim to be there for the first tour at 10:00 . We may have several tours depending on the number registered. The slots can be filled very quickly, so it is important that you register asap by end of Aug.

The cost of the ticket is 45-70 shekel per person

The total cost will be finalized only after we know the number of participants and whether they will go to the center independently or via arranged bus and whether they would like to have lunch. There is an Arabic restaurant opposite the center

Morning visit & guided tour of the Babylonian Jewry Heritage Center– Mon 23 Oct

The center is located in Or Yehuda about 16 km from Tel Aviv .

The Museum features both permanent and changing exhibitions. The permanent exhibitions highlight a selection of topics from community life in Iraq and the Diaspora, and address the changes which they underwent during the past few centuries. The gallery of plastic arts at the museum features changing exhibitions related to the heritage and culture of Babylonian Jewry. The renovated auditorium hosts the opening events for exhibitions, film screenings and family events. School children and visitors of all ages visit the museum, from Israel and all over the world

If you have not visited the center before then it is very important to do this and to know your heritage.
